KIDLINK

The granddaddy of mailing lists for kids is KidLink. It's run by Norway-based KidLink Society "to promote a global dialog among youth through the sixty mailing lists in seventeen different languages." Over one hundred thousand kids in 123 countries use KidLink to discuss subjects introduced by kids, to find key pals, to work on school projects, and more. It's one of the best examples of virtual community among people of any age on the Internet.

For more information about KidLink, including information on how to subscribe to any of their lists, visit them on the Web, or send an e-mail to listserv@listserv.nodak.edu. In the body of the message, type: GET KIDLINK GENERAL. You'll get a return e-mail with information on subscribing to KidLink.

ADDKids

Pen-Pals Mailing list

Pen-Pals is a mailing list "to improve the written communication skills of young writers in a natural and hopefully, painless, setting." Kids write to each other either in the open forum of the entire list, or through private e-mail. Subscribe to the list and lurk until you feel comfortable enough to say hello. SickKids

SickKids is a discussion list for kids (eighteen and under) who are ill. The list is "a place for kids to talk about their feelings and frustrations." You can mail listserv@maelstrom.stjohns.edu and request an info file. Put this single line in the mail message: info SICKKIDS.

SickKids has a sister list, called CaringKids, for kids who are not ill themselves but who have relatives and friends who are ill. To find out more about CaringKids, write to CaringKids-Request@maelstrom.stjohns.edu.

TAGKIDS

TAGKIDS is a mailing list for gifted children. It is open to kids under age twelve whose families subscribe to one of several related list (TAGFAM, TAGMAX, TAGFORUM). The list is for "general discussion, hooking up with pen pals, and sharing creative writing efforts." All posts are reviewed by a moderator before they are forwarded to the mailing list.
