KIDLINK
www.kidlink.org/

The granddaddy of mailing lists for kids is KidLink. It's run by Norway-based KidLink Society "to promote a global dialog among youth through the sixty mailing lists in seventeen different languages." Over one hundred thousand kids in 123 countries use KidLink to discuss subjects introduced by kids, to find key pals, to work on school projects, and more. It's one of the best examples of virtual community among people of any age on the Internet.

For more information about KidLink, including information on how to subscribe to any of their lists, visit them on the Web, or send an e-mail to listserv@listserv.nodak.edu. In the body of the message, type: GET KIDLINK GENERAL. You'll get a return e-mail with information on subscribing to KidLink.

Pen-Pals is a mailing list "to improve the written communication skills of young writers in a natural and hopefully, painless, setting." Kids write to each other either in the open forum of the entire list, or through private e-mail. Subscribe to the list and lurk until you feel comfortable enough to say hello. You can mail a request to listproc@mainstream.net for an info file. In the mail message write: info pen-pals.

SickKids has a sister list, called CaringKids, for kids who are not ill themselves but who have relatives and friends who are ill. To find out more about CaringKids, write to CaringKids-Request@maelstrom.stjohns.edu.
